House Rules
Hiring is a DC 9 CHA check. Loyalty under danger is DC 12, loyalty after the job is DC 9 — fail that last one and they leave for good. Pay above the going rate to shift the odds; pay below it and expect to roll badly.
Hirelings are 0-level. HP 1d4, no XP ever, and the clothes on their back. What they ask for a day tells you most of what you need to know about how their year has gone.
Sellswords are 1st level, HP 1d8, and want a share of what you drag out. They use retainer loyalty rules, not these. Stats are rolled 3d6 down the line in case somebody wants to keep one.
Postings are what the house sells. The rate on the board is what you pay; the trade underneath it is whoever was standing there. The gap between the two is how the Tally House eats.
Where you stand decides the trade. Roll d12 on the town's board for the row, then d6 down the row. Nothing is ever impossible anywhere — a kiln-yard can still cough up a torchbearer.
